A Better Drinking Experience, Backed by Science
Stir-ring is designed to improve how spirits taste and how they feel afterward. Using science-backed adsorption technology, it helps remove harsh congeners and other unwanted compounds that can contribute to burn, harsh taste, and next-day discomfort.
The goal is simple: bring out more of what you want in the glass, and less of what you do not.
What Does the Stir-ring Reveal Do?
As the Stir-ring moves through the spirit, its specialized adsorbent material captures certain compounds on its surface rather than releasing anything into the glass. This selective process helps reduce some of the elements that can interfere with aroma, flavor clarity, and overall smoothness.
Instead of masking the drink, the Stir-ring works at the compound level to refine it. By removing some of what can make a pour feel sharp or heavy, it helps the spirit present itself in a way that feels cleaner, more balanced, and more expressive.
The Science Behind a Better Sip
1. Adsorption at Work
As Stir-ring moves through the spirit, its specialized material captures certain compounds on its surface through adsorption. This selective process helps refine the pour while keeping the core character of the drink intact.
2. Designed to Reveal, Not Mask
Stir-ring does not add flavor or cover anything up. Instead, it helps remove some of the elements that can compete with the spirit's natural depth, allowing a more balanced expression to come forward.
3. More Character in the Glass
With less standing in the way, the spirit can feel smoother, cleaner, and more expressive. That means more of what you want to taste, and less of what you do not.
A Familiar Concept. A Different Application.
Stir-ring works in a similar way to a concept that is familiar to many whiskey enthusiasts. Like charcoal filtering, it uses adsorption to help remove certain unwanted compounds. Instead of treating a full batch, however, Stir-ring is designed to refine one glass at a time.
Founded by Engineers. Driven by Curiosity.
Bill began with a simple problem: he loved tea, but not the bitterness that could get in the way of enjoying it. After a long process of experimenting, he discovered that adsorption could help remove unwanted compounds and reveal a smoother, cleaner flavor.
When he shared the idea with Marty, they quickly saw the potential went far beyond tea and coffee. Drawing on their engineering backgrounds, they continued refining the concept until it became Stir-ring, a simple tool designed to help bring out a spirit's true character.
Reviews & Real Reactions
FAQs
Is the Stir-ring safe to use?
Yes, the Stir-ring is made entirely from materials rated safe for food contact utilizing materials generally regarded as safe.
How long does the Stir-ring last?
The Stir-ring is reusable, so there is no need to dispose of any part of it. We have several samples that have been in continuous use for 3 years and are still working well.
How many times can the Stir-ring be used before it needs rinsing?
It’s possible to treat several beverages with the Stir-ring before rinsing it under warm to hot tap water to regenerate the adsorbent. After a night of use, it’s recommended to run the Stir-ring through the dishwasher along with your other kitchen utensils.
What kind of detergent should be used to clean the Stir-ring?
Standard dishwashing detergents like Cascade, Finish, and similar products work well to clean the Stir-ring. The detergent you use in your dishwasher should work well. Make sure when loading the Stir-ring in the dishwasher that it is not blocked by a plate or pan so that it receives a good rinsing. If it’s not possible to use a dishwasher, use a Pyrex measuring bowl with hot water over 130°F and dishwashing detergent to clean the adsorbent.
What if I can’t rinse the Stir-ring out immediately after use?
Place the Stir-ring in a container and rinse the tool as soon as you return home. Run the Stir-ring through a dishwasher or cleaning cycle.
Is there anything I should not use the Stir-ring for?
This Stir-ring is designed to be used with different types of spirit beverages and should be used with them.
What does the Stir-ring do to my beverage?
The Stir-ring has an adsorbent polymer that removes certain off-tasting compounds called congeners from your spirit beverage, frequently revealing subtle flavors hidden beneath the harsh chemical burn experienced when first tasting the beverage.
Does the adsorbent in the Stir-ring add anything to my beverage?
No, the adsorbent in the Stir-ring acts to remove unpleasant compounds from the beverage. It does not add anything to the beverage to modify the taste.
Can the Stir-ring be recycled?
Yes, all of the components of the Stir-ring can be recycled and reused. It is our intention not to waste anything used to make the Stir-ring. We plan to institute a recycling program for customers interested in doing this.
Are there other Stir-ring products available to use in other beverages?
We are currently working on additional Stir-ring tools that could be used with other beverages such as wine, coffee, tea, and fruit juices to accomplish similar objectives of improving the flavor of these beverages.
Where is the Stir-ring manufactured?
Many of the parts are made and the final assembly of the Stir-ring is done in the USA.
Should the Stir-ring be cleaned before its first use?
Yes, we recommend running the Stir-ring through a dishwasher or cleaning it with dishwashing detergent before using it for the first time to ensure a clean tool, as you would do with any new kitchen utensil.
